manuscript Submissions

We are currently closed for submissions.

We publish poetry, non fiction, fiction chapbooks, novellas, and novels of all genres. At Prismatica Press, we focus on content from underrepresented groups, with a focus on people of color, women, the LGBTQ community, and disabled people*.

Have a single story or only a few poems?
Please submit your work to Prismatica.

Previously published poems, stories, essays, excerpts may be included in your manuscript. Please provide publication acknowledgements (title of poem/story/essay, where and when published) in the body of your email.  

All of our books are available in physical format, which can be found in our shop. All profit the press makes from chapbooks go towards paying artists and fees that keep our magazine running.

As of winter 2020, we are able to pay our authors 30% royalties on net profits from their books. We do not pay advances.

* Our EIC is autistic and physically disabled, she does not prefer “person-first” language.

Submission guidelines

  • In your email, please include your name and a short biography including any social media links you would like promoted if your work is accepted.

  •  Please submit stories in standard manuscript format and in .RTF, .PDF, .DOC, or .DOCX format. Include the manuscript type in the subject (chapbook, novella, novel, etc.) 

  • Manuscripts should include the Table of Contents (if necessary) and the manuscript text only. Tables of Contents page(s) are necessary if more than one piece of writing (poem, short story, essay, vignette, etc.) appears in the manuscript.  

  • Poetry Manuscripts:

    • Each poem should begin on a new page

    • Must be less than 50 pgs

  • Prose Manuscripts:

    • Each story, chapter, or essay should begin on a new page

    • Manuscript body should be double-spaced

    • Novellas and novels should only include the first chapter.

    • Must be less than 40k words

  • Manuscripts with artwork, illustrations or images: 

    • Send artwork as separate attachments

    • Images should be provided as high resolution jpeg files

    • Identify image in the file name (e.g. Image 1, Image 2, etc. or a brief description of the image)

    • Note placement for each image within the manuscript (e.g. by page number or other reference point such as adjacent piece of writing or by listing on the Table of Contents)

    • Do not include images in manuscript document  

  • Only one submission per reading period

  • All contributions should be submitted to chapbooks@prismaticapress.com

  • You should receive an email from us with 24 hours to confirm your submission. Our general response time is within 5-6 weeks.

  • If your work is accepted, we will send you a contract (see below for example).

We accept

  • Any genres!

  • Poetry/experimental poetry/visual poetry

  • Novellas and short story compilations

  • Non-Fiction, such as essays

  • Simultaneous submissions - but please let us know if your work has been accepted elsewhere!

Confidentiality

All personal information will never be shared with anyone outside of the editorial staff, except:

  • if compelled by law

  • if threats are made against staff

  • if narrators need assistance with pronunciation (email only)

  • if instructed by the author
