Prismatica Press’s
Statement of solidarity with palestine
The Prismatica Magazine Editorial Team stands in solidarity with the people of Palestine in their struggle against the violent, genocidal occupation of the settler-colony Israel. We unequivocally support calls for a ceasefire, as well as the liberation of Palestine and the self-determination of its indigenous people.
As a queer speculative fiction magazine, we believe it is important to dismantle the propaganda tactic used by settler-colony Israel called “pinkwashing.” We reject the idea that the only path to queer liberation is through Western settler-colonialism, which is itself mired in violent homophobia. We wish to elevate the words in A Liberatory Demand from Queers in Palestine. We encourage our readers to read their statement, and echo their calls to act in support of the people of Palestine.
We urge our contributors to read and sign the solidarity letter created by writers in support of Palestine. We urge our fellow literary magazines to join us in taking a stance against apartheid and genocide. As speculative fiction writers and artists, we are tasked with imagining liberatory futures. Those liberatory futures must not include Islamophobia, antisemitism, or Western settler colonialism.
A good place to start learning about the history of Palestine is DecolonizePalestine.com. Haymarket Books, Verso Books, and other radical presses are currently offering reading lists and free ebooks to help deepen your understanding of the 75-year occupation and the rich history of the Palestinian people. An easy way to contribute to the struggle against the occupation is by joining the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions Movement at BDSMovement.net.
In writing this statement, we referred to Augur Magazine’s 2023 Palestine Solidarity Statement, Strange Horizons’ 2021 Palestine Solidarity Statement, and the Writers in Solidarity with Palestine letter. We encourage people to read the work of Palestinian authors broadly. For speculative fiction, a good place to start is FIYAH Magazine’s Palestinian Special Issue or Strange Horizons’ Palestine Issue.
Sincerely,
Prismatic Press Editorial Team
